Joining a team of 3 caring for a high yielding pedigree Holstein herd of 360 cows, milked by 5 Lely robots. The herd is housed all year round in cubicles and straw courts and calves all year round. The milk is sold on a liquid aligned contract.
The successful candidate would be expected to work with the existing herdsman and herds manager in the day to day management of the herd. Duties would include routine robot maintenance, mastitis detection, administering medicine, assisting fertility checks, cubicle hygiene, upkeep of the hygiene in the dairy and general stockmanship. AI would be advantageous but training will be provided. Weekend work would be required as part of a rota.
Previous robot experience is not expected but attention to detail and good stockmanship skills are essential.
A 2 bedroom, double glazed cottage is provided on farm with fabulous views of the picturesque Scottish Borders. Great local amenities and 24 hour supermarkets available close by.
This is a great opportunity to join a progressive, modern, forward thinking farm with a commitment to the dairy industry.
