Their work is specifically focused on dairy, working with stakeholders across the dairy sector to identify the barriers and opportunities for enabling fairer and more ethical dairy systems – and helping to overcome them. They recently published a dairy farmer insight report that highlights some of the aspirations/changes dairy farmers would like to see in the sector but also the barriers preventing this change. If you are interested you can read the report here.
It is clear through these conversations that to ensure a fair dairy system for planet and animals, we also need to ensure farmers have a fair deal. They are running online innovation workshops with farmers to explore ideas and solutions to some of the barriers identified in the report - with a focus on people at the heart of dairy. This is an opportunity for farmers to have their voices heard by dairy processors, retailers and Government and ensure that solutions for farmers are designed by farmers. The solutions proposed during the innovation workshops will be explored and developed with dairy processors and retailers throughout the remainder of our project, with the aim of having at least written commitments and a plan for implementation by the end of 2023.
Food Ethics Council are running our first online dairy innovation workshop this Thursday 12:00-2:00pm. This session is focused on exploring and designing new ways to improve farmer work/life balance and create more headspace. Although personal resilience is important, the focus will be much more on what needs to change across the sector rather than just at farm level. You can sign up for the session here: Dairy Innovation Workshop: "More time on our hands" Tickets, Thu 9 Mar 2023 at 12:00 | Eventbrite
