This conference is part of a KTIF project sponsored by the Scottish Government and lead by SAC Consulting, in conjunction with Zoetis, Muller and the University of Edinburgh

The project aimed to reduce antibiotic use using selective dry cow therapy (SDCT) and has involved dairy farms in Aberdeenshire and Ayrshire. Their results have been closely monitored over a two-year period to evaluate the effect of SDCT on mastitis rates and dry period performance and these will be presented and discussed.

Keynote speaker: Dr James Breen, University of Nottingham and EBVC

This is a great opportunity to hear from Dr James Breen, a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeon’s Recognised Specialist in cattle health and production and one of the team behind the AHDB Dairy Mastitis Control Plan. James divides his time between the University of Nottingham Veterinary School and working for the Evidence Group and will discuss the important factors for making selective dry cow therapy a success. The results of a three-year project looking at reducing antibiotic use through selective dry cow therapy and the effect on udder health in Scottish dairy herds will also be presented.
