Planning for Profit: Level 1 (2 day event)

Aimed at dairy farm owners and managers, AHDB Dairy invite you to a short course to build your confidence and develop your skills, enabling you to understand how your dairy business is performing and where to focus your efforts to drive profit and build a sustainable business. These will be delivered over 2 days and offered at two different levels.

Level 1: Attend this course if you are new to leading on the business decisions within the business or have the need to understand the financial structure of the business better in order to plan for the future.

Level 2: Attend this course if you already have a good understanding of the financial structure of the business and are looking to future proof the current business to grow. Book Level 2 here.

Level 1

Dates: Tuesday 9th November 2021 & Tuesday 16th November 2021

Time: 10:00 – 16:00; Lunch and refreshments provided

Trainer: Tony Evans, Head of dairy and livestock consultancy team at Andersons Consulting

Day one

  • The basics of running a dairy business
  • The difference between tax accounts and management accounts
  • Managing cashflow
  • Driving the finances of a better business
  • Reviewing previous performance – identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
  • Key Performance indicators – which ones are relevant to your system
  • Calculating your profit needs and justification

Day two

  • Time management and prioritisation
  • Communication – share the vision
  • Longer term planning and improving your Balance Sheet
  • Forward budget (Profit and Loss Account) and planning ahead / cashflow
  • Sensitivity analysis
  • Monitoring and adapting with change
  • New opportunity – partial budget or not?
