Grazing youngstock, reaching targets

Online

Join us for an interactive workshop to learn about how brothers James and Wallace Hendrie can reach heifer pre-bulling target weights on their spring block calving herd while grazing.

You’ll see how maximising grass utilisation, growth and management can promote stable growth.  And you’ll discover why maintaining the correct energy balance at grass in early lactation, gets heifers off to the best start in their milking career.

Joe Patton from Teagasc, a consultant specialising in nutrition of the grazing herd will examine the farm’s previous performance and share the best options to achieve the targets.

In this session you’ll hear about:

  • Grazing plans for young stock and reaching pre- mating growth targets
  • The importance of flexibility in grazing to maximise grass utilisation - with reduced detriment to herd potential performance
  • Budgeting and planning of grass platforms at start and end of season- managing early and late lactations

Places are limited as the workshop will be an open two-way discussion where you’ll be invited to share your own experiences, knowledge and ideas.

If you are involved in a grazing herd, wanting to improve any of the areas above or are keen to see how this could fit in with your system, then this workshop is for you.
