EuroDairy Webinar - The Role of Forages as Protein Sources in Dairy Systems

Online Event Only

What to expect: Increased volatility in prices and availability of soya and other protein sources has increased the importance of providing more protein from home-grown forages in diets of dairy cows.

Join this EuroDairy webinar where Elisabet Nadeau will discuss the role of forages as a protein source in dairy systems. During this webinar Elisabet will cover effects of forage species, the rate of nitrogen fertiliser, wilting, conservation and the use of additives on forage protein and the effects on dairy cow performance.

Elisabet will also present the strategy that the EuroDairy pilot farmer, Per Larsson, uses for utilisation of forages as an efficient protein source for his organic dairy herd.

Per Larsson runs a 200-cow organic herd in Skaraborg County, Sweden. The 250-hectares farm includes a 30-hectare grazing platform and 120-hectares is used for forage and silage production. The herd supplies 1800 000 kg of milk to Arla per year.
