SAC Dairy Beef Calf Systems – Managing Nutrition and Infectious Disease

In addition to the large dairy beef rearing companies, SAC have seen an increase in farms taking on small numbers of dairy beef calves to rear as a sideline to other farming enterprises, outside the traditional dairying areas. This webinar will aim to highlight the important nutritional and health planning considerations for these rearing systems up to and around weaning. The management and prevention of common problem scenarios will also be discussed. Speakers: Robert Ramsay (Agricultural Consultant, SAC Consulting): An experienced beef and sheep farmer, Robert has worked for SAC Consulting for over 12 years. His day-to-day work involves one-to-one consultancy for farmers, with a particular focus on business management, beef and sheep systems and improving the financial performance of rural businesses. Colin Mason (Veterinary Centre Manager, SRUC Veterinary Services) Colin is a farm animal vet with a background in disease investigation and preventative health planning. A significant part of his work is looking at dairy bred youngstock and working to prevent disease, improving health and performance. Lorna MacPherson (Dairy Consultant, SAC Consulting): Lorna has a background in nutrition, having worked for 12 years in the livestock feed sector as a nutritionist before joining SRUC in 2016. She specialises in advising dairy farmers on nutritional management and technical performance.
