Winning the battle against rushes

Feoch Farm ,Kilwinning Road, Darvel KA17 0NF

Grassland in Scotland has seen a significant increase in rush infestation with rushes establishing in fields where there has not been a problem in living memory.

Three years ago we met at Feoch Farm near Darvel where we looked at the attributes of the rush plant and the common methods of control, including fortifying grassland by ensuring soil conditions and nutrient availability are optimised with effective drainage and liming plans to maintain optimal soil structure and pH status.

Some trial plots had been set up on our host farm to review the long term effectiveness of a number of differing rush control options and the costs associated with the different methods.  At this event, we will revisit the trial plots to find out which control method has had maximum impact and whether this is a cost-effective way to manage rush encroachment on your farm.

This meeting will give you some helpful hints and tips to take home and make a plan to reduce rush infestations in 2020.

This is an outdoor, on-farm event.  You are asked to wear warm clothing and suitable footwear.  Lunch is provided as part of the event so please use the booking form below to secure your place
